Big Brother wins
The Blues carry the second round tie against county little brother two goals to zero
Stabæk put on an solid performance and won handsomely 2 – 0 against Bærum at Kadettangen, safely making their way to the third round of the cup.
1333 spectators had found their way to Sandvika on the first true summer evening of the season - to view a classic cup tie between the two football brothers of Bærum. Little brother Bærum, who habitually spend their days in the second division, have previous years evicted clubs such as Vålerenga (2004) and Strømsgodset (2009) out of the cup, and they were hoping for a repeat performance this year against the county powerhouse in Blue.
Daniel Nannskog and Pontus Farnerud are still on the injured list and could not participate, but the Blues mustered the following squad:
Jon Knudsen
Tom Stenvoll, Kristian Flittie Onstad, Tor-Marius Gromstad, Bjarni Olafur Eiriksson
Espen Hoff, Henning Hauger, Mikkel Diskerud, Jørgen Skjelvik
Veigar Páll Gunnarsson og Jan Banan Tømmernes
The match opened with two teams on an equal footing, without any clear chances to either team. As the match progressed Jørgen Skjelvik is involved in much of what is produced on the offense, and it is not undeserved when Stabæk takes the lead in the 31st minute on a beautiful shot by Espen Hoff. Stabæk takes this lead with them into half time after having produced what there was of scoring opportunities in the first half.
Stabæk continues with solid play after the intermission, and it is well deserved when Skjelvik and Gunnarsson finally succeed with one of their many combinations, allowing Gunnarsson to score Stabæk’s second for the day, only one minute into the second half,. From this point on the Blues confidently control the match the remaining 45 minutes, allowing Bærum only one shot that hit the post – a shot fired by son of former Stabæk manager, now Bærum manager, Jan Erik Aalbu.
Four minutes before time 19 year old Jørgen Hammer is enters the pitch for his debut for the Blues – giving yet another young player his chance in Stabæk – after Erik Benjaminsen’s debut against Høland last week.
As the final whistle blew, the approximately thousand Stabæk supporters that had coloured the stadium Blue throughout ninety minutes could return home well satisfied after having witnessed the Blues with yet another good day at work.
The third round will be played Wednesday 9th June.
But before then we welcome Start to our “home ground”, Ullevaal, on Monday 24th May.
Welcome.
