Happy Birthday Janni – three goals, stop Start!
A cloudy but warm afternoon at Ullevaal and the last of our three away games at the National Stadium. The squad went through their practice routines with happy, confident and smiling faces. Do they know something that we don’t? Maybe so, but a hesitant and unassured first ten minutes, certainly didn’t make for comfortable watching. Only the occasional quick ball broke the monotony of Start’s midfield control. On 13 minutes, things change a little when Danny N hits the post with a great header. None of us, including Danny can believe it didn’t go in. Then after 35, Andersson, first to the ball with a little touch leaves Eriksson free to hit a fast, strong, left foot cross and with a superb finish, its Danny with goal NUMBER 100. A truly great goal with which to pass this historic landmark.
Who knows what JJ said at half time, perhaps it was,” guys it’s my birthday, there’s only one present I need and its three points”. Anyway, it certainly worked. A different team came out for the second half, one that was confident, committed, and strong in the challenge and one which worked together. Off the back of this, we now had a midfield! It made for good viewing and thanks to the one and only “one O one” Danny N, we moved smartly to 2-0. This well taken goal could well have been the third in a very classy hat trick. Goal No 3, scored by Hoiland was a fitting tribute to the good work of the whole back four. Hedenstad in particular, still only 19 years old is a great prospect for the future. They not only defended well all afternoon, but had a big hand in our goal scoring.
So 3-0. Happy JJ, happy us, it will be a good party tonight. Danny should be guest of honour!
